A charity football match between a Whitby Town XI and RAF Fylingdales at the Towbar Express Stadium has successfully raised more than £500 for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
More than £500 has been successfully raised for the RAF Benevolent Fund after Whitby Town hosted a special charity football match against a team from RAF Fylingdales.
The fundraising fixture took place on Saturday at the Towbar Express Stadium, bringing together players, dedicated supporters, and members of the local community for a shared cause.
The primary aim of the weekend event was to support the vital work carried out by the charity, which focuses on assisting serving and former Royal Air Force personnel, as well as their families.
On the pitch, a Whitby Town XI took on the team from RAF Fylingdales in what was described as an entertaining contest for those in attendance.
The home side ultimately ran out 4-1 winners on the day. However, organisers emphasised that the focus of the afternoon extended far beyond the final result on the scoreboard.
Instead, both teams united with the shared goal of raising money for a cause that delivers essential assistance to members of the RAF community.
The RAF Benevolent Fund offers lifelong support to its beneficiaries, specifically helping those who are facing a variety of financial, emotional, and practical challenges.
Event organisers confirmed that the match successfully raised more than £500. They attributed this achievement to the generosity of those who attended and contributed throughout the day.
Following the event, Whitby Town issued a statement of thanks to RAF Fylingdales for taking part in the fixture.
The football club also expressed its deep appreciation to everyone who supported the event and helped to boost the final fundraising total.
A spokesperson for Whitby Town said:
"It was proud to have played a role in supporting the charity and strengthening its links with the local community through the successful event."
