Evening and night road closures will take place in Whitby from next week as part of works to the Spital Bridge junction.
North Yorkshire Council has announced that evening and night road closures will be in place for junction works at Spital Bridge, Whitby, from Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21.
As the authority nears the completion of the works, the whole junction will be closed for resurfacing and road marking painting for five consecutive weeknights from 7pm to 2am.
The works are part of a £500,000 upgrade to improve safety for road users and pedestrians at A171 Helredale Road, New Bridge, Larpool Lane, and Spital Bridge, Whitby, NYC said.
There will be a signed diversion via the A169, Pickering, Scarborough, and the A171, according to the council, adding that it will not be possible to drive a vehicle through the junction from any of the four arms during the closure.
It noted that some adjustment to the start date and duration of the works “may be necessary should unforeseen circumstances, such as significant weather or emergencies on the highway network, arise”.
North Yorkshire Council stated:
“During these night works, the contractor will endeavour to keep noise to a minimum. If you have any questions, please contact our customer services team on 0300 131 2 131 and say “roadworks” when prompted.
“Our opening hours are Monday and Tuesday 9am to 5pm; Wednesday 9.30am to 5pm; Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.
