Councillors in Whitby are asking questions about the lack of grit bins in the town.
During the recent cold snap paths in the town were described as lethal, with the police having to close a pedestrian area around the Town Hall after it became too icy to walk on.
Town Clerk, Michael King says they have asked the county council why there aren't more grit bins and were surprised by the response.
Whitby Town Council is to ask for further information from the county council after footpaths in the town became unusable during the recent cold spell.
Town councillors say there are concerned by a lack of grit bins and the fact that some existing bins haven't been refilled.
Councillor Bob Dalrymple says the paths were dangerous.
Town Mayor, Councillor Linda Wilde, says parts of the town centre had to be closed during the cold snap as sheet ice made for dangerous conditions on the footpaths.
Both the Town Mayor, Linda Wilde, and the Town Clerk say they have received many complaints from local residents about the state of the footpaths.
Whitby Town Council says it will be contacting North Yorkshire County Council about the situation.
