Scarborough-based organisation Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise has launched an interactive digital map of it's 222 hectare site.
This project has been a year long undertaking, mainly by a group of volunteers to create a way of taking the woodland out into the community, and reaching those who may not be able to access the woods themselves.
Using an online map you will be able to experience key sites within the woodland through 360o photography, sound recordings, photos and more.
There is even live music, mindfulness and sound therapy, and will continue to grow and develop over time.
This project is part of the Scarborough’s Wonderful Woodlands project, which has been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
David Ruston, virtual tour creator at Your360 said:
"I've thoroughly enjoyed working with fellow creatives and the Raincliffe team on what quickly became a passion project. Living close to the woodland I'm often walking or riding through, benefitting first hand from the enchanting landscape and seeing the joy it brings to many others. By creating this unique tour we can help spread the great benefits the woods has to offer.
With the base of this tour been set I look forward to collaborating more and being part of its future development."
Rob Weatherley is Community Woodland Manager for Raincliffe Woods Community Enterprise.
He says the project is 18 months in the making and there was lots of ground to cover:
Gillian Astbury, Events and Outreach Officer at Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise, said:
"This project has been a long time in the making and we are thrilled to be able to show the public. It has all been down to the hard work and dedication of a team of very talented volunteers.
We all love our woodland, but with its steep terrain, we acknowledge that it can be a daunting place for some people to access, so we hope that this map can allow them to enjoy some of what the woods can offer.
The exciting thing about this project is there is so much scope for further development and public involvement. We are so grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and National Lottery Players for making this possible."
Rob Weatherley says the feedback so far is that people are enjoying the virtual experience:
