The region's mayor has been speaking to successful equivalents across the North of England to see how North Yorkshire can benefit.
Mayor of North Yorkshire, David Skaith, has been busy seeing what's worked well elsewhere and says our coastal regions are paramount:
"We have an opportunity to really showcase how we can deliver the opportunities and investments at places like Scarborough, Whitby, and others along our coastline need.
"It's obviously on a great situation where we get to meet with all the other mayors and the other regions and nations across the country as well. We've been able to also create strong links within the wider piece of Yorkshire with South and West Yorkshire mayors, we've been able to sign the white rose agreement, which is a big focus on that, is how we prove transport and get that rail investment into our region. We've seen the great work that's happened over the northwest with mayor Burnham and Mayor Steve Rotherham over in Liverpool, and that joined up approach, particularly on working on transport, has meant they've seen some great investments."
Mayor Skaith says he doesn't come from a political background but as a small business owner, he wants healthy and thriving communities living in warm, affordable homes and where people have those connections to the place that they live.
" We've unlocked 540 million pounds over the next 30 years through the male investment fund. Some of those funds that we've already created in the first 15 months are the High Street Fund, which a 10 million pound fund. Some of those projects have gone into Scarborough already and working with Steven Joseph Theatre and local shop owners to drive that investment. We are making big progress on becoming the first carbon negative region in England by 2040. Something that we've got. We feel that we've got a very unique opportunity to do in the region. We've put a huge amount of investment in innovation into supporting our feed colleges, which we are very blessed.
"We have a very high quality of colleges and train providers right across the region."
Mayor Skaith also mentioned a fund to help entrepreneurs and other new start-ups:
" With our innovation fund, we are helping businesses to grow and export and start-up. One of those elements which we've been able to really drive for investment is particularly the export funding, which we freed up 200,000 pounds last year, which developed 15 million pounds worth of sales for businesses across York and North Yorkshire.
"So that fund this year has been triple to 630,000. So we're hoping for some great opportunities there for businesses across the region. We're also working with government to attract. Further investment on top of that initial 540 million. So we initially got a 10 million pound inactive trailblazer.
"We've actually received a further 10 million pounds. That's 20 million pounds now."
