Two Arrested And Three Vehicles Recovered After Bridlington Burglary

Two men have been arrested and three suspected stolen vehicles recovered following an overnight burglary in Bridlington and a subsequent police pursuit across the East Riding.

Two men are in police custody and three suspected stolen motor vehicles have been successfully recovered following a coordinated overnight operation in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The extensive police response involved officers from the local patrol teams, the Dog Unit, and the Roads Policing Unit, following an initial burglary report in Bridlington.

A spokesperson for the police detailed the start of the incident:

"At around 2.15am, we were called to reports of a Hanoi burglary from outside a property on Kingston Close in Bridlington, where a member of the public reported there was an intruder in their garden wearing what looked to be a balaclava, and their vehicle had been stolen."

Patrol officers covering the Bridlington area were initially deployed to the scene and successfully located the suspected stolen motor vehicle.

However, police report that the driver of the vehicle failed to stop for officers on the B1259. The driver then proceeded to drive the car off-road, eventually abandoning it in a field near Langtoft.

The Police Dog Unit was immediately called up to assist with the rural search. The specialist unit found the vehicle decamped with no one present inside, and officers recovered the vehicle for forensic examination.

Following these initial enquiries, officers quickly established that the abandoned vehicle may have been connected to a possible convoy of vehicles travelling from the West Yorkshire area earlier in the night.

This suspected convoy reportedly included a cloned vehicle which had been spotted earlier in the area of Cherry Burton.

Roads Policing Officers managed to intercept this cloned vehicle, bringing it to a halt.

The police spokesperson explained what happened next:

"Upon stopping, the driver reportedly blew 110 on a roadside breath test, and enquiries also established he was suspected of driving whist disqualified. The vehicle was also confirmed as stolen."

As a result of the stop, a fifty-one-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was detained on suspicion of drink driving, drug driving, disqualified driving, driving without insurance, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and burglary dwelling with intent to steal.

The incident continued as Bridlington Patrol Sergeants sighted another linked convoy vehicle heading west along the A166. This third vehicle eventually came to a stop in the village of Wetwang.

Officers on the scene swiftly confirmed that this vehicle had also been cloned and stolen.

When officers approached the car, they found a man inside who was covered in mud. Police say this confirmed their suspicions that he was potentially the same driver who had fled into a field to evade officers earlier in the night.

A twenty-six-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary dwelling with intent to steal, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence.

After failing a roadside drug swipe, the twenty-six-year-old was also further arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

All three of the stolen motor vehicles have since been recovered by the police. They are set to be forensically examined before being returned to their rightful owners.

Both men remain in police custody at this time, where they are assisting officers with ongoing enquiries.

Officers are appealing for anyone with concerns or information that may assist with their investigation to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 26*98518.

Alternatively, if members of the public wish to report information anonymously, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
