There could be disruption to TV pictures today for people served by the Bilsdale TV mast.
Transmission company Arqiva says it is planning to switch on a new temporary Bilsdale TV transmitter tomorrow (Wednesday 13th October) following the fire which destroyed the main mast back in August.
The final engineering work and power tests are due to take place today and during the early hours of Wednesday, which Arqiva says will have an impact for those viewers that do have a signal .
Arqiva say that if you do currently have a working TV signal, it is very likely you will experience disruption during the day today. But they say, do not adjust your set. The company says :
"It’s important that you don’t retune your TV today, as a signal will be restored for the evening’s TV viewing. Providing the final tests are successful, the new Bilsdale mast will be operational from 6am onwards on Wednesday. The chief executive of Arqiva, Paul Donovan says that once the temporary mast is switched on it will reveal which addresses still do not receive a signal. Additional, smaller, relay towers will then be built at identified sites to help fill in these so-called “not spots” of TV coverage.
Mr Donovan showed maps of the estimated not-spots. More than 90% of households will have had their TV services restored following the switch-on, but some coastal and Dales areas in North Yorkshire and County Durham are likely to be amongst the places where services are not restored by the temporary mast and where further measures will be required.
