Two men and a woman have been jailed after a man was lured to a Scarborough property, assaulted, and robbed of his personal belongings.
Two men and a woman from Scarborough have been handed prison sentences following a violent robbery in the town earlier this year.
Thirty-two-year-old Sadie Metcalfe, forty-five-year-old Luke Clayton, and twenty-nine-year-old Lloyd Fitzgerald were sentenced at York Crown Court on Friday after admitting their roles in the terrifying attack.
The court heard that the incident took place at around 8.30pm on Tuesday the 26th of March 2026. The victim attended an address on Seamer Road in Scarborough through his association with Metcalfe, whom he knew socially.
Upon arrival, the victim entered the property and took a seat in the living room. Shortly afterwards, two men emerged from the kitchen and became aggressively confrontational towards him.
One of the men was already known to the victim as Luke Clayton. The second man, who was unknown to the victim at the time but referred to himself as “M”, was later identified as Lloyd Fitzgerald.
Inside the property, the victim was both threatened and assaulted. During the attack, objects including a mirror and a gold vodka bottle were used to reinforce the threats, and the victim suffered injuries including having a tooth knocked out.
The attackers forced the man to hand over his personal belongings, which included a Nokia mobile phone, a gold vape device, and fifteen pounds in cash. Even after surrendering his possessions, the offenders continued to search him.
Following the ordeal, the victim managed to escape the address and made his way to Scarborough Police Station to seek assistance, prompting North Yorkshire Police to launch an immediate investigation.
The victim was able to name Metcalfe and Clayton directly to officers and provided a detailed description of the third suspect. Fitzgerald was subsequently identified during a video identification procedure.
The trio were swiftly arrested by police. During their enquiries, officers seized a gold vodka bottle and two mirrors which were believed to have been used during the robbery. The stolen gold vape device and the cash were recovered from Clayton at the time of his arrest and were later confirmed by the victim as his property.
All three defendants were jointly charged with robbery and pleaded guilty at their first appearance at York Crown Court in May. Metcalfe was imprisoned for forty-two months, while Clayton and Fitzgerald were each sentenced to thirty-eight months behind bars.
The victim detailed how he now suffers from anxiety and a constant sense of fear since the incident, which has significantly affected his independence.
In a victim personal statement read to the court, the unnamed victim described the lasting impact of the attack, he said:
“Before this offence, I was independent and trusted people, particularly those I considered friends. I attended the location believing I was meeting people I know, but instead I was robbed. Being lured there by individuals I trusted has had a significant impact on me.
This incident has left me feeling vulnerable, isolated, and unable to live the life I previously had. The effects are still ongoing, and I fear they may continue for a long time yet.”
Following the sentencing, investigating officer Detective Constable Sam Rivers, of North Yorkshire Police’s Scarborough and Ryedale CID, spoke about the case and said:
“This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was left with several injuries, including the loss of a tooth.
These three individuals thought they could intimidate and assault someone for little more than mobile phone, a vape and £15 in cash.
Violence and intimidation of this nature are completely unacceptable. No one should be subjected to such an ordeal, and we’ll keep doing everything we can to make sure offenders are caught, taken to court, and held accountable.
I am pleased with the sentences handed down at court, and that all three are now behind bars where they can no longer pose a risk to the public.”
