Plans to create a combined Mayoral Authority taking in North Yorkshire and York are still on the cards.
That's according to the Chief Exec of North Yorkshire County Council - Richard Flinton.
The move would be part of a devolution deal for the area unlocking government cash for the region.
It's though that the first mayoral elections could happen as soon as May 2024, but Mr Flinton says the recent government reshuffle has delayed things a bit.
Over the Summer the Prime Minister gave a speech about devolution revealing a new concept of County Plans as an alternative way of achieving devolution, although the details around those plans remains vague.
However, Richard Flinton says the indications from Westminster is that the mayoral plan is still the preferred option for the area.
