Plans to spend £30k on a study to determine where would be the best place to plant trees in North Yorkshire have come in for criticism.
The County Council in partnership with the University of Huddersfield and White Rose Forest has successfully bid for Net Zero Innovation funding worth £30K to study the tree planting supply chain.
The council say the money will:
"enable plans to be developed to ensure land, equipment and trees are available in the right place and time for planting projects, whilst also supporting local businesses and rural economy employment."
But Councillor Melanie Davis thinks the money would be better spent on planting actual trees and wants the council to use it's own land.
Executive Member for Climate Change, Councillor Greg White, thinks the study will provide important information about the best way to ensure any trees planted have the best chance of survival and make a long term impact on the environment.
The White Rose Forest is the community forest group for North and West Yorkshire, it works in partnership with local authorities, landowners, businesses and communities to increase woodland across the region and improve the natural environment.
