Scarborough's first ever streets festival took place over the weekend as part of the revised Scarborough Fair project.
The three day event saw street artists performing across the town in a range of free activities and performances. It was the first time that the Streets Festival has been staged. It is seen as one of the key events being developed as part of the year round Scarborough Fair initiative.
Festival director Julian Caddy says the town will see more major events taking place as part of the fair over the coming months including an Arts and Fringe event.
Julian says he believes that events like the streets festival will bring more people to the resort.
Julian Caddy says the upcoming arts and fringe festivals are intended to provide entertainment for both local people and visitors.
Scarborough Art is another new event taking place between Saturday 15 June and Sunday 4 August 2024 at various venues across Scarborough town centre and beyond. It is providing an opportunity to visit different places and spaces around the area and discover work from across the creative community. Artwork of a wide range of media will be showcased from paintings and sculpture to photography and printmaking.
Scarborough Fringe will feature theatre, music, comedy, spoken word, children’s shows, and a variety of other events and performances. Running between Friday 21 June and Sunday 30 June, it is a sister festival to Scarborough Art, and the first Fringe to ever take place in Scarborough.
Some events will be free, and others will be ticketed. They could take place in traditional arts venues or more unconventional settings such as pubs, hotels, the indoor market or even the Central Tramway. The Fringe will take over Scarborough for 10 days and promises to have something for everyone – from residents and families to students and tourists alike.
