Medics from the British Divers Marine Life rescue team attended Scarborough yesterday after they received reports of a live porpoise stranding south of Scarborough.
Six volunteer medics and HM Coastguard immediately responded to the area with more medics and rescue equipment en route.
As the team were kitting up the porpoise managed to free itself on the incoming tide.
The BDMLR team say:
"Our team spent time checking the location in case the porpoise re-stranded but no further sightings were reported.
If members of the public do come across the porpoise on the beach over the next few days please call our hotline immediately."
Matt Barnes captured footage of the Porpoise.
If you're interested in becoming a Volunteer Marine Mammal Medic, the BDMLR team have two courses running in Bridlington on the May bank holiday weekend 30th April and 1st May.
Anyone over 18 can join and you don't have to be a diver to join the team.
