A convicted sex offender who has already breached a court order designed to protect the public has been sent back to jail.
Garry Dover Afflick, 59, was jailed at York Crown Court in September 2023 for breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
The order had been imposed after he was convicted of possessing indecent images of children in October 2017.
Afflick – who has dozens of previous convictions and deemed a significant threat to children – was released from prison on licence in August 2024 and transferred to North Yorkshire in January 2025, and managed by the Probation Service and a specialist North Yorkshire Police team, the MOSOVO unit (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders).
However, he made concerning statements when he was visited by a police officer earlier this month, and data from his GPS tracker showed he had breached his release licence by attending a location in Scarborough.
As a result, his licence was revoked on 22 January, and he was immediately returned to prison by North Yorkshire Police.
Detective Sergeant Vicki Millington, of North Yorkshire Police, said:
“Afflick’s behaviour is extremely concerning, including the fact that he ignored the strict licence conditions put in place when he was released.
“As a result of the swift action we took, Afflick has been returned to prison – where he can pose no risk to members of the public.
“This case demonstrates how we will work with our partners to manage the risks posed by violent and sexual offenders, even after they have been released from prison, to protect the public from harm.”
