Scarborough extended their winning run in dramatic style, at Driffield, yesterday, with mixed results elsewhere.
Scarborough won their fourth match in a row on Saturday but it went down to the last ball, at Driffield.
Pat Roberts' men batted first and posted 245 for 9 with in-form Breidyn Schaper firing 86 and Oliver Stephenson adding 64.
At 122 for 2, the hosts looked on course to win the chase. James Wainman's 2 for 39 and the introduction of spinners Ben Elvidge (1 for 60) and Linden Gray (1 for 61) slowed their progress. Cian Dickinson took 2 for 29 from his six overs, it came down to 12 needed from the last six balls, with Driffield having five wickets remaining. Bowling the last over, Gray removed Harry Burnhill, meaning the home side needed 10 from their last two balls. Nick Hardgrave then blasted a six from the penulatimate delivery and clipped the final ball into the leg side. He and Nicky Johnson set off to run, completing two before wicketkeeper Roberts collected the ball and prepared to roll to Gray at the non-striker's end, only for Johnson to deliberately stop the ball with his foot. He was given out for obstructing the field meaning Scarborough won by one run.
Folkton and Flixton are also in fine form and went top of the York & District Premier Division with a four-wicket win over title rivals Beverley. Harry Walmsley was the star as the villagers fielded first with figures of 6 for 60. The visitors scrambled to 201 for 9 from their 50 overs. Folkton and Flixton were boosted with a 121-run opening partnership between Tom Norman (55) and Richard Malthouse (57), but then slipped from 121/0 to 164/6. However, Jake Hatton (25 not out) and Max Harland (19 not out) took the hosts home with 11 balls to spare.
Bridlington suffered their first loss of the season as Cottingham leapfrogged them in another top versus second clash in Division One East. However, Brid started well, reducing their Hull hosts to 8 for 2 early on, they eventually recovered to post 202 for 9 from their 50 overs. Ben Traves starred with 3 for 18 and there were two wickets each for Casey Rudd and Sam Edmundson. Brid's response never really got started, all-rounder Thomas Hudson top-scored with 21 as they were dismissed for just 114 and now drop to second spot.
Whitby were also beaten as North Yorkshire South Durham Division One leaders Stockton extended the agony for Kai Morris' men who are in the midst of a difficult run. Batting first, the County Durham side raced to 159 for 2, but the visitors pegged them back well, taking key wickets despite a high run rate, with youngster Kobie Boocock taking 4 for 59 and Morris himself finishing with figures of 3 for 34. Stockton eventually declared on 250 for 9 with seven overs remaining. Those overs were added to Whitby's reply, as per competition rules, and the North Yorkshiremen started brightly. Opener Kieran Howard made a useful 26 and Fin Morris reignited his early-season batting form with 45, but despite 22 from Kai Morris and Andrew Wood making the same score, they were bowled out when 49 runs short.
