Part of Scarborough's YMCA building has been closed after a crack was discovered in a section of concrete.
The YMCA say that a visual inspection of the building was carried out yesterday after they identified a part of the building that could contain RAAC concrete .
The building was constructed in the 1960's and used to be a school raised concerns that the RAAC concrete could be present.
YMCA General Manager, Liam Downey said:
"On closer inspection we noticed a crack in part of the concrete.
We made the immediate decision to close the majority of the premises until a review by a professional can be made.
Until that time, our Community Desk, including all Paypoint, YODEL and Stasher transactions will take place at the Theatre Entrance. Citizens Advice and Blueberry Academy are unaffected.
At this time, YMCA Theatre is open for productions and Twilight’s production is going ahead as planned.
All other activities are to be considered cancelled at this moment until we get further updates. I know that some of our users such as PDC have found alternative venues, please contact your dance school or company for further information."
The YMCA say they took the immediate decision to close the majority of the premises until a review by a professional can be made.
The YMCA Theatre is open and shows are going ahead.
