Two crews from the Scarborough to Holland North Sea Race were rescued over the weekend we hear from one of the skippers.
Two of the yachts taking part in the annual Scarborough to Holland North Sea Race had to be rescued by lifeboats over the weekend.
14 yachts set sail from Scarborough on Friday evening for the annual race.
Firebird suffered mechanical issues and was towed to Lowestoft by Comer Lifeboat while Jos of Avon started taking on water off Flamborough Head.
Skipper Nick Taylor explains what happened.
Nick Taylor told us about the moment they knew they were in trouble.
The first boat to come to their rescue was a catamaran which services wind farms off the Humber. Nick says they pulled up alongside and passed over some electrical pumps to remove water from the cabin
Nick says there's no chance they hit a reef or rocks as they were in fairly deep water at the time
After calling the Coastguard to say they were planning on turning into the Humber the RNLI were sent out to tow them in to help them in dangerous and busy shipping lane in the Humber. The Humber Lifeboat was also joined by a rescue Helicopter.
They were taken to Grimsby where they hoisted the boat out of the water. The hole was about the size of a 50p piece.
Nick paid tribute to the RNLI rescuers
Both the crew of Jos of Avon and Firebird were returned safely to land.
Nick said he'd been in contact with Firebird's skipper about their rescue and has offered help to enable them to sail back to Scarborough
The remaining yachts in the race continued their journey across the North Sea with the winners arriving in Holland on Saturday evening.
