Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club and Boyes Stores are pleased to announce that the new Barons Padel Tennis & Pickle Centre will be located at the soon to be vacated, W Boyes & Co. Ltd warehouse site on Hopper Hill Road, Eastfield, Scarborough.
Boyes say this development represents a positive investment in grassroots sport and community wellbeing in Scarborough. The project has been made possible through the support and commitment of Boyes Stores, enabling the former warehouse site to be brought back into use as an accessible sporting facility for the local community.
The Barons Padel Tennis & Pickle Centre will provide a high-quality venue for two of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part, learn, and enjoy regular physical activity in an inclusive environment. An initial review from Boyes indicates that the site will be able to provide up to 15, heated courts, which will be a mixture of Padel, singles and doubles, as well as Pickle, which say they really does help highlight the scale of the project.
Scarborough RUFC Chief Executive Graeme Young said:
“We are pleased to be able to lease this facility from Boyes Stores for community sporting use. This project highlights the positive role local businesses can play in supporting grassroots sport. Scarborough RUFC and Boyes Stores share a strong commitment to participation, accessibility, and community benefit here in Scarborough.”
Managing Director of Boyes Stores and Marketing Director of Scarborough RUFC, Richard Boyes, added:
"Having recently acquired the former Pindar printing site, we have decided to relocate all stocks currently sited at our Hopper Hill centre into our new ‘Pindar’ warehouse, with teams moving less than a mile to the new facility. After careful consideration and being a part of the surge in both Padel and Pickle tennis, it makes complete sense to assist Scarborough RUFC in providing a centre that elevates the County in the development of Padel and Pickle tennis. This location is in an area of fast residential and commercial growth, which will only benefit from such a community-based facility that is accessible to both its residents and people drawn into the area through this sporting centre, which will benefit existing businesses in the area too."
The Centre is scheduled to open later in 2026, subject to planning, and further details about the development, opening times, and opportunities to get involved will be announced in due course.
Scarborough RUFC and Boyes Stores look forward to welcoming the community to the Barons Padel Tennis Centre and to seeing the site take on a new and positive role in Scarborough’s sporting life.
