The Scarborough Sailor taking part in the golden globe round the world Yacht race is heading for port after suffering an infestation of Barnacles.
Guy Waites is heading for land in Brazil to get the boat out of the water and hopefully remove the hitch-hikers, Guy's hope is that he will be able to continue with his circumnavigation even if he is essentially out of the competitive race.
Guy called the Golden Globe Race office on Friday to advise on his decision to head for Uruguay, he has since decided that ports in Brazil may be closer and offer better facilities.
The fast growing barnacles are all over the hull and now growing on top of each other in the stern section.

Guy says the infestation of barnacles has slowed his boat to a crawl.
He says there is no way to get the barnacles of the Sagamartha while at sea.

You can follow Guy's progress with the Golden Globe Race live tracker at https://goldengloberace.com/live-tracker/
