Scarborough Town Council is set to debate plans to convert the ground floor of the former Durham Hotel on North Marine Road into residential flats.
Plans to turn a former Scarborough pub into flats are set to be discussed by councillors.
The application to see the ground floor of the former Durham Hotel pub in Scarborough’s North Bay turned into flats will be debated by town councillors at a meeting on Thursday.
Submitted plans state that the change of use would provide much-needed accommodation in the centre of Scarborough and would not harm the conservation area, as no external alterations have been proposed to the front of the property.
Six flats currently exist on the first and second floors of the building at 44-46 North Marine Road.
Scarborough Town Council’s planning and licensing committee will consider the development at its meeting on Thursday, July 23, ahead of a final decision by the local planning authority.
The pub has been closed for more than four years, according to the applicant, who said that the ground floor would accommodate a two-bed and a one-bed flat, both of which would have their own entrances using doors facing North Marine Road.
The inhabitants of the flats would also have access to a separate rear yard.
Thursday’s meeting at Scarborough Town Hall will also see councillors discuss The Tea Pot café’s application to build a first-floor bar serving alcoholic drinks, teas, coffees, and cold platters at its East Pier harbourside location.
A terrace with a seating area would also be created, allowing customers to enjoy Sandside’s vibrant atmosphere. If the scheme goes ahead, the business would increase the number of staff from 15 to 23, according to applicants Marvin and Julie Smith.
Members of the public have been invited to attend the meeting, which is scheduled to start at 3pm.
