The practice says it is seeking additional support from NHS partners across the area.
In a letter to patients Scarborough Medical Group says that staff illness combined with high demand is causing issues.
The message posted on social media says:
"Dear Patient
Under daily NHS reporting measures, the Practice has unfortunately this morning had to declare itself to be under significant pressure and is working with NHS partners across the area to seek additional support. This is due to sickness levels within our clinical teams and continual and consistent high levels of demand on our services.
As a result, we may need to redirect patients to other support, where necessary and appropriate, such as NHS111 which can book appointments for urgent care at Urgent Treatment Centres, or local pharmacies which can help with many minor illnesses and ailments.
Please, only use hospital A&Es in genuine accident and emergency situations. We are working very hard to cope with these pressures and very much hope that this situation improves shortly. We will provide support for patients with urgent needs first and other patients may be redirected to NHS111.
We would ask our patients for their understanding at this very difficult time and ask for patience as we try and deal with the significantly increased and sustained demand with a depleted team.
Thank you."
The group runs surgeries at Danes Dyke, South Cliff and Cloughton with over 14,000 patients in and around Scarborough.
