The landlady of Scarborough's Cask says pub's provide important community functions which could be lost for good.
More needs to be done to save local pubs and recognise the role they play in society.
That's from one Scarborough landlady whose own pub is currently under threat of closure.
Andrea Allison runs the Cask, the building owners are looking to sell and a local fundraising campaign has been launched to try and buy it so that it can continue to operate as a public house.
Andrea says pubs are a key part of local communities.
Andrea thinks that the closure of Scarborough's Cask pub would be a blow to the local music scene if it were to happen.
She's supporting a local group who are trying to raise enough money to buy the building from the current owners who have announced their intention to sell.
Andrea says if the building was sold and the pub had to close it would have a big impact on local musicians.
Star Pubs & Bars announced in early January they intend to sell the building, since then the Cask Community Benefit Society has been formed to try and raise enough money to buy the building and enable it to continue operating as a pub.
The Cask Community Benefit Society has created a pledge form for those who are interested in saving the building. They say that this is to gauge the levels of interest and isn't legally binding.
