Scarborough Borough Police and Crime Vote Turnout Revealed

Friday, 7 May 2021 11:57

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

As the ballots are being counted to see who will be North Yorkshire’s next Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC), the turnout for Scarborough has been announced.

A total of 18,399 people cast a ballot in the borough, making the turnout 22.04%

That was up from 18.42% in the last commissioner election in North Yorkshire in 2016.

The PFCC election was originally meant to take place this time last year but was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak which has meant Julia Mulligan has stayed in the post for an extra year.

Ms Mulligan has held the role since it was created in 2012 and there are four candidates in the race to replace her including Philip Allott (Conservatives), James Barker (Liberal Democrats), Alison Hume (Labour) and Keith Tordoff (Independent).

The result will be announced later this afternoon.

Scheduled elections for North Yorkshire County Council, which were also due to take place this year, were postponed due to the ongoing consultation into Local Government Reorganisation.
