Scarborough Borough COVID Infection Rate Up on Last Week

Monday, 29 March 2021 08:17

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

Scarborough’s infection rate is higher than it was a week ago as the first easing of lockdown restrictions comes into force today.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people is up to 45, a rise of 11 on the same time last week.

The latest figures show the rate reached 48 yesterday before falling slightly to 45 today. On March 9th it was just 20.

Scarborough is averaging seven new cases every day compared to five cases a week ago.

Scarborough’s infection rate is now the same as the North Yorkshire average and just 10 behind the average for England.

Only the Selby district in North Yorkshire now has a higher infection rate than Scarborough.

In good news, the number of people to have at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in Scarborough has rocketed to 59,611 as of March 21.

It means that 10,775 people in the borough were given a vaccine that week, a huge increase on the 2,758 jabs dispensed the week prior.

Today, the Government’s “stay at home” order has come to an end with groups of six or two households allowed to meet outdoors.

Some outdoor sports activities will also reopen but people will still be urged to work from home where possible.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.
