Play was suspended for 35 minutes in the Boro V Darlington National League North fixture at the Flamingo Land Stadium in front of a record crowd at the ground.
Scarborough had just gone 3-0 down around 10 minutes into the 2nd half when play was suspended at the request of match officials.
The club later released this statement:
Scarborough Athletic is committed to upholding a zero-tolerance stance on discriminatory behaviour.
We can confirm that today's game was suspended during the second half for approximately 35 minutes at the direction of the match officials.
A number of individuals were ejected from the ground before the match was restarted.
Scarborough Athletic continue to work with the relevant authorities and condemn discriminatory behaviour of any kind.
Darlington also posted out both during and after the match:
During the first half of the game at Scarborough, the female assistant was subject to alleged misogynistic remarks from one or two Darlington fans. Darlington FC wholeheartedly condemns such conduct, and so if you witnessed these incidents and can help identify the culprits, then please e mail ray.simpson@darlingtonfc.org in the strictest of confidence.
There was a subsequent incident after half time, believed to involve Scarborough fans, which resulted in a delay of 30 minutes. Darlington FC also condemns this incident, and encourages any eye witnesses to come forward in the strictest of confidence.
Scarborough lost the game 5-2 in front of over 3,000 fans.
Boro were at one stage 5-0 down but Michael Coulson scored 2 late goals to save some face.
Darlington went back to the top of the league with the win. Scarborough sit 5th.
