Scarborough Athletic Honoured With National Fan Engagement Award

Scarborough Athletic Football Club has been crowned the winner of the Best Fan Engagement prize at the 2026 Best of Non-League Awards.

Scarborough Athletic Football Club has achieved national acclaim after being crowned the winner of the Best Fan Engagement prize at the Best of Non-League Awards for two thousand and twenty-six.

The entirely fan-owned sporting institution was selected for the prestigious accolade as part of the fifteenth annual celebration of Non-League Day, an initiative designed to highlight the importance of grassroots and semi-professional football.

The fan engagement trophy was one of merely three major honours distributed across the country to recognise sides operating between Steps one and six of the non-league pyramid, celebrating the vital work that makes the sport special both on and off the pitch.

Organisers of the awards process relied heavily on the input of the footballing public, with the initial nominations being submitted directly by supporters of the respective clubs.

Following the nomination phase, an expert judging panel was tasked with evaluating the candidates against a rigorous set of five core principles before ultimately selecting Scarborough Athletic as the national winner.

The primary factor considered by the judges was the club's community connection. Evaluators scrutinised how effectively the organisation serves the local population and represents the broader area.

Secondly, the panel examined the overall club culture. This involved looking closely at the dedication of the unpaid volunteers, the behaviour and loyalty of the supporters, and the team's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment built on strong moral values.

The matchday experience was also a crucial element of the judging criteria. Scarborough was praised for providing a stadium environment that is welcoming to all demographics, while maintaining an approach that keeps the sport affordable and enjoyable for local fans.

In addition to the immediate matchday environment, the panel assessed the broader positive impact the club has on the region, specifically looking at the tangible difference the organisation makes in the community regardless of their results on the field.

Finally, the judges looked for teams that embody the true spirit of non-league football, a metric defined by a club's authenticity, resilience in the face of challenges, and civic pride.

Following the announcement of their victory, officials from Scarborough Athletic expressed their delight at receiving the national acknowledgement.

A spokesperson for Scarborough Athletic Football Club said:

"The club would like to thank everyone who continues to make our club so special - Up the Boro!"

While the Yorkshire Coast side secured the fan engagement prize, two other clubs were also highlighted for their exceptional off-field contributions.

Leatherhead Football Club was officially named as the recipient of the Community Impact Award, while Kidsgrove Athletic Football Club successfully secured the Matchday Magic Award.

Organisers of the Best of Non-League Awards concluded the event by issuing a statement of gratitude to the vast network of volunteers, clubs, and dedicated fans who helped to ensure the latest edition of Non-League Day was a resounding success.
