The MP for Scarborough and Whitby says the area has to be more self sufficient when it comes to generating energy.
Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume believes the Yorkshire Coast has a significant opportunity to benefit from the burgeoning offshore wind farm industry.
Speaking recently, Ms Hume outlined her vision for the town of Scarborough to capitalise on its proximity to major offshore wind farm developments such as Dogger Bank:
While acknowledging that Scarborough may not become a major centre like Grimsby, she highlighted the town's "safe harbour". Her ambitions include developing West Pier with a "boat hoist" to enable operators like Mainprize to service their vessels there, potentially attracting other businesses as well.
Ms Hume expressed hope that this development could provide "young people in Scarborough the chance to get good jobs and careers linked in with the offshore wind farms". She affirmed her "big ambitions for the town:
