Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume is campaigning for fairer funding for rail services in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Speaking in a Westminster debate, Alison Hume has emphasised the need to address the "long-term neglect" of rail transport in the north.
The MP highlighted the disparity in rail funding, noting that total treasury spending on rail in Yorkshire and the Humber was £1.25 billion the previous year, compared to £9.3 billion for London and £3.1 billion for the South East.
She also noted that combined authorities are not eligible for the city region sustainable transport funding settlement, which has caused York and North Yorkshire to struggle to plan a transport strategy.
Alison Hume also referenced previous governmental plans for rail funding which have failed to materialise and said she is looking forward to hearing from the minister about how open access operators will be incorporated into the plans.
Alison Hume said she hopes that the funding issues, especially around North Yorkshire's access to the city region sustainable transport funding settlement will be addressed in the forthcoming spending review.
