Scalby Fair Organisers Thank Local Community

Organisers of this year's Scalby Fair say the new elements added to the week long festival worked well as they thanked residents and local businesses for their support.

This year's event included a car show and additional entertainment stages at the main fair day on Saturday.

Michael Whiteley from the fair committee says the whole community came together to deliver the event.

"We've taken a little bit more room up in the village and gotta thank the residents.

It's a pain when your road's closed even for a few hours. But that they're just so helpful and cooperative.

The Car rally was great. Some really lovely cars and lots of interest. I think that'll just get bigger and better in years to come.

Fair Day itself, we had three stages this year. We we were in the Methodist Hall as well as the fringe and the main stage.

I think there were three different gardens. Demonstration Garden. Children's Garden, a challenge arena. Every bit we've done has just worked worked great.

And we'll just build on that for next year."

The week long event culminated on Saturday with an expanded fair day which saw more entertainment stages added to the event and more areas of the village used to deliver the event.

Michael Whiteley says the support from local businesses and volunteers was first rate.

"It's all just a great community effort, the Nags Head and the Plough and the Yew Tree and all the local businesses really. They just upped their game.

The Plough in particular, they put outside seating. It was like you were in a French continental sort of town rather than the village. It was absolutely lovely and just a great feeling.

I think we had over 60 volunteers helping us throughout the week and just wouldn't be able to do it without them.

I think everyone on the committee is just buzzing about how good it's been and we'll have raised quite a lot of money for all the charities we're supporting this year. So yeah, it's great.

Everyone just pitching in, getting stuck in together to give a wonderful event to the community."
