Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough is inviting the public to a special exhibition this week as it begins celebrations of its 40th anniversary
The exhibition, titled ‘40 Years Caring for our Community – Looking Back, Looking Forward’, will take place at the hospice’s Wellbeing lounge in Throxenby Lane during Hospice Care Week 2024. The exhibition will be open on Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th October 2024 from 12.30pm.
This exhibition promises a fascinating journey through the hospice’s rich history, showcasing its significant contributions to the community over the past four decades. Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of exhibits, including photos, memorabilia, and site plans, offering a tangible connection to the hospice’s past.
Anna Jackson from the hospice says this week's event will mark the launch of the 40th anniversary celebrations.
Adding a personal touch to the experience, the hospice's Chief Executive and Chair of Trustees will be giving short presentations at 1pm each day. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in tours of the hospice, providing a deeper understanding of the hospice’s facilities and the vital care it provides. Staff will be available for conversations, offering insights into the hospice's future plans, including developments to the building, services, and events planned for the 40th anniversary year and beyond.

Beyond simply displaying historical artifacts, the exhibition aims to foster a deeper understanding of the hospice's integral role within the community. Anna says that putting the exhibition together has provided a fascinating insight in to the organisation.
Anna says the the 40th anniversary next year will be marked by a range of celebratory events which are being worked in to an already busy events calendar.
The events will form part of Saint Catherine's ongoing fundraising efforts through which it needs to raise £6.1 million each year to deliver their specialist care.
Anna Jackson says they are always looking for new ideas and ways to help with the fundraising effort, the latest innovation involved gin.
