A spectacular and secure fireworks display will return to Scarborough Cricket Club next week, offering families a safe environment to celebrate Bonfire Night.
With a week to go until November 5th, Scarborough Cricket Club are leading efforts to deliver a safe and controlled fireworks display in the sky over Scarborough next week as families prepare to celebrate Bonfire Night.
Organisers at Scarborough Cricket Club have confirmed the return of their annual Firework Extravaganza at North Marine Road on Thursday the 5th of November.
The event promises an award-winning pyrotechnic show lasting up to twenty minutes, alongside fire breathers, stilt walkers, food stalls, and a fully licensed bar. Gates will open at 5.30pm, offering an evening of entertainment before the main display begins at 7.30pm.
Strict safety measures will be in place throughout the evening to ensure a secure environment for all attendees.
The focus on professional, controlled displays follows last year's incident on Scarborough's South Bay beach where a large numbers of fireworks were set off directly from the sand. Video footage shared online showed fireworks shooting off sideways and individuals holding lit fireworks in their hands.
North Yorkshire Police were called to the beach at around 7.15pm after two eighteen-year-olds suffered injuries to the face and hand. The beach was cleared in anticipation of a Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter landing, though the casualties were ultimately taken from the scene by land ambulance. Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume commented at the time, reminding the public that fireworks are essentially explosives and urging people to look out for others.
Operations Manager at Scarborough Cricket Club, Dan Gregory, says the club want to provide a safe environment where families can enjoy a professional fireworks display:
It's a safe controlled environment. We work incredibly closely with both active security solutions and the council to make sure that everything is planned and prepped in advance.
Obviously we have the full safety safety certificate. Everything is worked out to the T in terms of making sure it's a safe environment. And yeah, we'll be making sure everyone has a great time and can be safe in the knowledge there's going to be no incidents. Obviously it's incredibly unfortunate what happened last year on the beach.
So yeah, hopefully people come down to North Marine Road and safe in the knowledge that they can bring the family down and have a fun night and obviously be safe at the same time.
The cricket club hopes the extravaganza will firmly establish itself as Scarborough's official fireworks display. Local businesses, including Active Security Solutions, Sunset Wines, and Deepdale Computer Services, have stepped in to sponsor this year's event.
Dan Gregory added:
"Everyone is super excited to be hosting the the firework extravaganza at North Marine Road again.
We've got a fun-packed evening in store. We've got obviously a first class firework display, obviously in a safe controlled environment with the full safety logistics on the go as well. So, everyone can be sure that everything's done in a safe and controlled fashion.
The display will be similar to how it's been done in previous years. It's 15, 20 minutes-ish, which is a great length for the fireworks display and the the company that are going to be doing the fireworks have have won all kinds of awards for their displays and they're assured me it's going to be an even better one this year.
We've got fire breathers, we've got stilt walkers. So, yeah, a fun night for the whole family.
This is the Coast's Paddy in the Morning will be providing a musical soundtrack to the display.
Families attending the autumn event will benefit from a new ticketing option this year. A family ticket covering two adults and two children is available for £25, which provides better value for those attending. Standard admission is priced at £10, with concessions available for £5, while children under the age of four can attend the event completely free of charge.
Tickets for the extravaganza can be purchased online through the Scarborough Cricket Club ticket shop, or supporters can buy them in person by visiting the club office.
