Research Shows Bridlington Earning Gap

The average household in west Bridlington made £8,200 less a year than the national average, making it the second-lowest earning in the country according to the latest figures.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) data showed west Bridlington households made £23,800-a-year, compared to £32,000 nationally. Households in Kirk Ella were the biggest earners in Hull and the East Riding on average, bringing home £59,000 according to the latest figures from 2020.

ONS figures showed households in Clapham Common with the highest neighbourhood figure of £108,100. The neighbourhood with the lowest average household earnings was on the south bank of the River Humber, East Marsh & Port in Grimsby with £22,200.

Average earnings in the London suburb Clapham Common were almost five times more than those in East Marsh & Port near Grimsby’s docks. Another Bridlington neighbourhood, Hilderthorpe, was fifth-lowest in the country with earnings of £25,200-a-year.

Households in Middlesborough Central and Batley Central earned less with yearly averages of £24,900 and £25,100 respectively. Bridlington Hilderthorpe was followed by Bradford’s Holme Wood with £25,400.

Yorkshire and Humber neighbourhoods accounted for 30 out of the 45 lowest-earning, with eight in the North West and seven in the North East, while the South had none. In contrast, 37 of the 50 highest earning were in London, 12 were in the South East and one was in the East of England.

In East Yorkshire, North Ferriby and Swanland had the second-highest average household earnings with £59,000-a-year. It was followed by South Cave, Newbald and Little Weighton with £56,000, Brough with £55,700, Molescroft, £55,300 and Walkington, Bishop Burton and Woodmansey, £54,400.

Stamford Bridge & Sutton Upon Derwent households took home £52,100, Sherry Burton, Leconfield & Middleton, £52,100, Hessle West £50,100 and Cottingham West, £49,600. West Bridlington and the Hilderthorpe area were followed by Southcoates East in Hull as the third lowest in East Yorkshire with average yearly earnings of £26,300.
