Investigators say a full investigation into the collision on the North Yorkshire Moors Railways last month is not needed.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch says it has concluded it's preliminary examination of a collision on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway last month and will publish a "Safety Digest" in the next few weeks.
The RAIB say:
"At about 10:32 hrs on 21 September 2021, a class 20 diesel locomotive collided with the rear of a stationary passenger train at Grosmont station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The collision occurred at around 10 mph. It resulted in minor injuries to five passengers and some damage to the passenger train.
We have undertaken a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding this incident. Having assessed the evidence which has been gathered to date, we have decided to publish a safety digest.
The safety digest will be made available on our website in the next few weeks."
The prelimanry investigation involved the RAIB sending inspectors to the railway to investigate the incident.
They RAIB say:
"When it is clear that the safety learning from an event has been identified by a previous investigation or relates to compliance with existing rules, we may choose to publish a safety digest, rather than carry out a full investigation."
"Safety digests are a way of quickly sharing important safety messages when we have decided not to undertake a full investigation for any of the following reasons:
the safety learning has already been covered by a previous recommendation or will be addressed by an ongoing investigation
the safety learning mainly relates to compliance with existing rules, procedures or standards"
