Scarborough Swimming Club has received a £1,000 donation from Proudfoot's Making A Difference Locally initiative to purchase new training headsets, as one of their swimmers is shortlisted for the Commonwealth Games.
Young members of the Scarborough Swimming Club have been presented with a generous £1,000 donation during their weekly practice session at Everyone Active in Scarborough.
The funding comes from the Proudfoot Making A Difference Locally initiative, as part of their Heart of the Community Award.
Representatives from the supermarket group visited the club yesterday to watch the youngsters enjoying their time in the water while learning new skills and swimming techniques from the qualified coaching team.
The financial boost will be used to enhance the training equipment available to the swimmers, specifically focusing on communication during practice.
Nathan, a member of the Scarborough Swimming Club coaching team, said:
"We will be using the £1000 to purchase more headsets for our training squads. They have become an invaluable tool in developing stroke technique whilst swimming."
In addition to the funding news, the club is celebrating significant individual success at an international level.
Nathan revealed that one of the club's talented swimmers has been shortlisted to join the England Squad at the upcoming Commonwealth Games, which begin on the 23rd of July in Glasgow.
Looking further ahead, the same swimmer is also being considered for a potential spot on Team GB at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The swimming club provides a vital service to the local area, allowing youngsters to learn to swim, refine their abilities, and compete against other groups in regular swimming meets held three times a year.
Valerie Aston, Proudfoot Director, said:
"Scarborough Swimming Club is an amazing group, enabling and offering opportunities to so many young people in a safe environment to, not only learn to swim, but to learn new techniques improving their swimming ability, and also join other swimming clubs in meets held 3 times a year. We are delighted to be able to support this group continue the valuable work they do with so many young people from the Scarborough area and beyond."
