Primary Residency Scheme Receives Further Backing

Scarborough and Whitby's MP Sir Robert Goodwill has backed plans to only make housing available to people who will use it as their primary home.

In January, Scarborough Council backed a motion to introduce a primary residency scheme in the town and earlier this year a government proposal that would give planning committees greater control over holiday let conversions received support from councillors in both Scarborough and Whitby.

Sir Robert believes that the scheme is vital for the local area.

Whitby councillor Phil Trumper says that he is also getting behind the calls for a primary residency scheme in Scarborough and Whitby.

Sir Robert says that it's important that the people in Scarborough and Whitby are looked after.

Sir Robert gives an example of how difficult primary residence schemes are to police.
