Occupants of a car have been rescued at Danby as strong winds and heavy rain continue to cause problems.
The occupants of the car were cut off by flood water but were rescued by emergency services.
North Yorkshire Police have tonight issued this statement about the latest situation:
There’s flooding on a number of roads, including main routes like the A169 at Satlergate/Fylingdales. We need to remind motorists not to attempt to drive through floodwater. As well as being dangerous to you, it diverts emergency services away from other important tasks if you get stuck. There are also lots of fallen trees and debris obstructing roads. So if you have to make a journey please drive to the conditions and expect the unexpected. We’re experiencing a very high number of calls due to the weather. We are ensuring 999 calls are prioritised, so thank you for bearing with us if you’re getting in touch on the non-emergency 101 number. We’re very busy but we’re doing our utmost to help everyone, through our control room in York and through our patrols who are out on the frontline in your area right now. We’ll be working hard throughout the night to keep everyone safe, powered by a fair few cups of tea and biscuits when we get chance. Please look after yourselves by driving carefully if your journey is necessary, checking traffic reports for blocked roads before you set out and not risking it if the road is flooded. Take care and stay safe
Earlier police confirmed details of a rescue in Danby.
There are now flood alerts at Ruswarp, Briggswath, Egton Bridge, Glaisdale, Lealholm and Danby, as well as at Pickering, especially riverside properties.
