North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information and CCTV footage following a series of vehicle break-ins and interference incidents in the Crossgates and Eastfield area.
North Yorkshire Police are urging residents to remain vigilant following a spate of vehicle break-ins and interference in the Eastfield area.
Officers are currently investigating several incidents that occurred overnight between the 4th and 5th of May.
The targeted vehicles were parked across multiple residential streets in the Crossgates and Eastfield neighbourhoods, specifically on Byward Drive, Rydal Crescent, and Station Road.
As part of their ongoing enquiries, the police are appealing to the local community for any information or surveillance footage that could assist their investigation into the break-ins.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police - Yorkshire Coast said:
"We’re appealing for information about several incidents of vehicle interference and break-ins in Crossgates, Eastfield. They happened overnight between 4 and 5 May on Byward Drive, Rydal Crescent and Station Road."
In addition to seeking witnesses, the force is taking the opportunity to remind motorists across the region to ensure their vehicles are secure, warning that thieves should not be given an easy target.
The police have highlighted that modern vehicle features can sometimes inadvertently signal to criminals that a car is vulnerable.
The North Yorkshire Police spokesperson added:
"And wherever you live, don't let thieves get an easy ride. Follow these simple rules to protect your vehicle: Always lock your vehicle, and check you haven’t left any windows or the sunroof open.
If your vehicle has wing mirrors that fold in automatically when locked, make sure you lock it properly. Criminal gangs are looking for vehicles like these where the wing mirrors are still out because it is clear to them that the vehicle has been left unlocked."
Police have issued further practical guidance to help residents protect their property, emphasising the importance of key security and sensible parking choices to deter opportunistic thieves.
The spokesperson continued:
"Keep your keys safe, out of view when at home, and away from your front door.
Park responsibly - avoid parking in dark and secluded areas. It’s worth an extra five or ten-minute walk if it means your vehicle is left in a well-lit and busier street.
Fit good in-car security locks. Additional physical security can help to prevent your vehicle being driven away even if a thief gains entry."
Anyone with relevant information or CCTV footage from the affected streets is actively encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Paul O’Neill, via email at Paul.O’Neill@NorthYorkshire.police.uk
Alternatively, members of the public can call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask to speak to Paul O’Neill.
For those who wish to remain anonymous, information can be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website.
Those coming forward with details regarding the incidents are asked to quote the police reference number 12260081173.
