Pickering Town Council has detailed its recent activities in its October/November newsletter, highlighting community grants, upcoming local events, and a police appeal for residents to register private security cameras.
The council has awarded several grants to local organisations. According to the newsletter, Ryedale Warriors Basketball Club received £560 to assist with hall hire and coaching fees. A larger grant of £4,000 was awarded to Pickering Preschool Playgroup to support building works at its new premises. The council also contributed £1,500 from its general grants budget to the "Pickering Rocks" event held on 6 September. The council stated it was "pleased to see so many people enjoying the day" and congratulated the organisers for their hard work.
Several community and environmental projects have also been noted. In the Community Park, the wildflower meadow was cut back in late August. On 5 September, a seed sowing and plug planting event was undertaken by The North Yorks Moors National Park, the Ryedale Environment Group, and volunteers. The council has said, "We look forward to seeing these grow and blossom next year". Additionally, volunteers from WHS Plastics have been painting the railings on Smiddy Hill, a project organised and supplied by the company. Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Emma Dineen met with the volunteers to acknowledge their efforts. A new memorial bench, donated by a member of the public, has also been installed outside the library.
North Yorkshire Police are encouraging residents to register their privately owned CCTV or video doorbells to help deter and solve crimes. According to information shared by the council, the police force believes these cameras "may deter criminals in the first place, but sending the evidence to the police can help them identify and catch criminals". Residents wishing to register their cameras can email North Yorkshire Police to receive an information pack and a secure link.
Looking ahead, the council is promoting several upcoming events in Pickering. The 1940s weekend, organised by Pickering Town Community Interest Company and Eden Camp, is scheduled for 12 October in the Market Place. The council also confirmed it is "busy making plans" for this year's Christmas Lights Switch On, which will take place on 22 November, also in the Market Place.
The council has also shared information from North Yorkshire Council regarding its Household Support Fund for 2025/2026. Households receiving 75% or more in Council Tax Reduction as of 1 September 2025 will automatically be sent a £190 supermarket e-voucher between 10 and 16 October.
Pickering Town Council will hold an Extra-Ordinary Council meeting on Monday, 6 October 2025, and an Ordinary Council meeting on Monday, 17 November 2025. Both meetings will take place at 7 pm in the Memorial Hall.
