Town or Parish councils that want to take over the running of some local services will receive funding from the new North Yorkshire Council.
Lower tier councils could take on the running of local services and assets as part of the devolution process in the county,
The County Council's Assistant Director for Communities -Neil Irving - says funding will be made available but could then be enhanced by local parish council funds.
The County Council's Executive Member for Finance - Councillor Gareth Dadd - thinks that Town and Parish Councils could run some local services more efficiently than the county council.
Councillor Dadd thinks it will be a good thing for some service to be delivered very locally.
A pilot project would see six lower tier authorities across North Yorkshire take on the running of specific local services from April 2024. The parish councils are being invited to submit expressions of interest, which could be for a wide range of services and assets. It is proposed that town and parish councils are able to choose what they would like to be considered, rather than being invited to choose from a limited list determined in advance.
Councils will need to apply before the end of March next year.
