North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they are receiving a large number of false alarm calls from the Scarborough area.
Deputy Chief Fire officer Jonathan Dyson says the number of false alerts has increased in recent weeks:
Building owners in the Scarborough Borough could be fined if their fire alarms persistently trigger false alarm call outs for the fire and rescue service.
The county's police and fire commissioner Phillip Allot is asking the service to look at charging repeat offenders:
