North Yorkshire COVID Cases Increasing as Lockdown Measures to be Eased

England's restrictions will ease as planned next Monday - meaning an end to enforced home working and table service, and no more limits on indoor mixing.

But we'll be encouraged to wear masks in crowded areas - while businesses like nightclubs will be urged to consider checking vaccine status.

Ministers say they will review measures in September.

But Boris Johnson says relaxing the rules doesn't mean the pandemic is over.

The announcement that the lockdown restrictions are to be fully removed comes as North Yorkshire is seeing an continued increase in COVID cases.

Director of Public Health Louise Wallace says the virus is spreading in the community.

The government's chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance says the reopening needs to happen slowly to stop a big spike in cases.

North Yorkshire has seen increasing numbers of COVID cases over the last few weeks with infection rates now back to January levels.

Louise Wallace says testing will continue to be important and currently is still important for everyone connected with schools.
