North Yorkshire Council has confirmed that the installation of the new playing surface at Scarborough Sports Village is on track to be completed by Friday, June 26.
North Yorkshire Council has officially confirmed the completion date for the community football pitch at Scarborough Sports Village, as the final installation of the new playing surface gets under way.
The comprehensive package of repairs at the facility has now reached its final stages. The council has been overseeing the extensive works to secure the long-term future of the pitch, which serves as the vital home ground for both Scarborough Athletic Football Club and Scarborough Ladies Football Club.

Crucial structural works designed to provide a stable base for the new pitch have been successfully completed by the construction company Willmott Dixon. This significant milestone now allows the final playing surface to be laid.
Work to install the new 3G pitch commenced this week, and the council anticipates that the entire project will be finished by Friday, June 26.
The confirmation of the completion date means competitive fixtures will return to the Scarborough Sports Village in time for the start of the 2026/27 football season this August.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for leisure, Councillor Simon Myers, said:
"This project has been a priority for us ever since our commitment to protecting the pitch’s long-term future for the benefit of the communities of Scarborough and beyond.
"From the outset, we have been clear that these repairs must be completed to a high standard, and crucially, as quickly as possible in order to minimise the impact on those who rely heavily on the pitch – especially Scarborough Athletic and their fans.
"I am delighted that we are now in the final stages of the project, with the new pitch being re-laid. It is great that the new playing surface will be installed well in advance of the new 2026/27 football season, as we promised.
"I am looking forward to seeing fans and pitch users return to Scarborough Sports Village in the coming weeks, and I would like to thank our communities for their patience and cooperation over the last few months."

The facility required a complex package of repairs to the pitch after a site survey conducted last year highlighted key issues that needed to be addressed before a new surface could be laid.
As a result of the necessary remedial works, the pitch was unavailable for competitive fixtures throughout the entirety of the 2025/26 season. During this period, Scarborough Athletic played their home fixtures away from the town, at Bridlington Town’s ground.
Willmott Dixon director Chris Yates said:
"Works at Scarborough Sports Village are now moving into the final phase, with our team having made strong progress on site.
"We know how important the facility is to the Scarborough community and are pleased that the new surface is set to be installed in time for the new season."
Following the council's confirmation of the June completion date, Scarborough Athletic Football Club has announced their return to the venue. Their first fixture back at the Scarborough Sports Village will be a pre-season friendly against Barnsley, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, with a 1pm kick-off.
