North Yorkshire Chief Constable Remembers Queen as a "Guiding Light"

North Yorkshire's Police and Fire services have given their reaction to the death of the Queen.

On hearing of Her Majesty’s passing, Chief Constable Lisa Winward said:

“It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth today, Thursday 8 September 2022. There is a sombre mood across the force and on behalf of everyone at North Yorkshire Police, I send our deepest condolences to The Royal Family at this very sad time.

“As Crown Servants, it is a particularly poignant moment for the policing family. We will remember Her Majesty as a guiding light and source of inspiration during her long reign of 70 years, particularly during times of uncertainty.

“Flags at North Yorkshire Police’s premises will now be flown at half-mast to mark the national period of mourning.

“Her Majesty’s death may affect many people across North Yorkshire and we urge anyone who is feeling particularly saddened to seek support from one of the many agencies who can provide a listening ear or advice.

“We are now preparing to support our communities over the coming days as we come together to remember Her Majesty and mark this historic moment in time.”

North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Zoë Metcalfe said:

“This is an incredibly sad day.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been the figurehead of our nation for over 70 years, a loyal servant who has provided stability and support to so many for so long. It is impossible to imagine life without her, and I know many will find the fact we now have to face that reality very difficult.

“Our emergency services will play a key role in the coming days in supporting our communities, and their commemorations and celebrations of Her Majesty’s life.

“My thoughts today are particularly with the Royal Family who have not just lost a leader but a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. No matter who you are or when it happens, the death of a loved one is incredibly hard, and my respects and condolences go to them.”

On hearing of Her Majesty’s passing, Chief Fire Officer, Jonathan Dyson said:
