The council says "rumours and speculation" about the hubs future are unfounded.
In a statement released on Friday Newby and Scalby Town Council said:
"Contrary to recent rumours and speculation, Newby and Scalby Town Council would like to assure the public that it is NOT closing the Community Hub.
It is aware there has been confusion and concern in the community due to misinformation, and Council wishes to address this issue openly and transparently.
Council urges the public to refrain from spreading unfounded rumours based on inaccurate information, or engaging in unruly behaviour such as disruption of meetings. Such actions only divert valuable time and resources away from Council's core work of addressing issues and working for the benefit of parishioners.
The Town Council values open communication and is always available to address any concerns or questions from the public, however it must be pointed out that public participation at its meetings is provided as a matter of courtesy and is not a legal requirement.
Anyone with questions or seeking clarification is asked to reach out to Council by email, website, phone, letter or visiting the office during opening hours.
Newby and Scalby Town Council remains committed to its community by providing valuable resources and services to the parish.
Council appreciates the continued support of the community and looks forward to productive and respectful engagement at future council meetings."
North Yorkshire Police were called to a meeting of the Newby and Scalby Town Council last Wednesday (Feb 14) following an apparent disagreement about letting members of the public take part in an “open forum”.
According to those present, residents at the meeting “refused to budge” after being told that they could not ask questions about cuts to local services.
