To coincide with the opening of their new Community Hub, scheduled for late Summer, Newby and Scalby Parish Council have appointed a Community Support Coordinator.
Helen King has been appointed to the role. Helen recently took early retirement having spent the past 18 years working as the Coordinator for the Macmillan Palliative Care and End of Life Team at Scarborough Hospital. She was born in Scarborough and lives within the Newby & Scalby parish council area.
Much of Helen’s time will be spent out and about in the community supporting residents, liaising with organisations and speaking to business owners. Helen will link people to the services they need. She will also collaborate with community, voluntary and charity groups across the wider Scarborough area to ensure any services developed and delivered compliment their work and do not duplicate it.
Helen said:
‘I decided early retirement was not for me, this new post in an area where I have lived most of my life allows me to carry on working with people, organisations and businesses that I already have a strong connection with’
Chairman of Newby and Scalby Parish Council, Councillor Reg Towse, adds:
‘It is a great step forward in community engagement for us to employ a Community Support Coordinator’ ‘We are very pleased to have Helen working with us as part of the team as we move forward with our Community Hub’.
If you would like to share information about your organisation or feel there is someone you know that lives in the Newby and Scalby Parish Council community and is socially isolated you can contact Helen directly by emailing helenking@newbyandscalbyparishcouncil.gov.uk or ringing/texting her on 07849 690 327. You can also contact her via the office on 01723 354018.
