A new literature festival in Whitby is to hold an open event for local businesses and venues this week.
Whitby is to host a new literature festival this time next year.
Organisers say it hopes to showcase the towns literary heritage and extend the visitor season.
The festival is being backed by North Yorkshire Council and English Heritage.
Local business owner - Lois Kirtlan - is one of the organisers...
Whitby connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland are to be celebrated as part of a new literature festival in the town.
Lois Kirtlan says the idea is to involve as many Whitby businesses as possible.
Lois says the timing of the festival, which is scheduled to run from November 6th-9th 2025, is designed to try and extend Whitby's visitor season.
Lois says having the council involved gives the festival some gravitas and shows the potential for the event.
Lois says the festival will involve some big name authors but will also showcase local talent and writing about the area.
A special event has been organised to be held on Friday next week (November 8, 2024) at Whitby’s Hetty and Betty between 5.30pm and 7.30pm for any local businesses, venues or accommodation providers interested in finding out more or how to get involved.
The event’s steering group is particularly interested to hear from potential venues keen on being part of the festival.
