A new community running group is launching in Scarborough on Friday morning.
The "early bird running crew" is modelled on similar groups in Harrogate and Knaresborough and aims to be a social rather than competitive running group as organiser Shaun Tymon explains.
The Early Bird Run Crew will start their first run at the Sands at six thirty in the morning.
Organiser - Shaun Tymon - says the idea is to promote mental health and make social contacts.
Shaun says the initial plan is to do the same 5k run each week.
The group has already received a good level of interest which Shaun hopes will grow over time.
There are already three other Early Bird Running Crews in North Yorkshire all with the same ethos:
"Our mission is to create regular opportunities for non-competitive group running. We are a social bunch, and interacting with each other is just as important to us as running.
You don’t need to be a pro-runner; you may have had a break from running, you may already run regularly or you may have never put a pair of running trainers on before. We welcome anyone who is keen to give an early morning run a go.
We love to see our Crews repping their Early Bird Run Crew shirts but they are absolutely not a requirement. All that’s needed is some sensible shoes and clothing you feel comfortable in."
The first meeting of the Scarborough crew will take place at 06:30 on Friday August 30th on the seafront at Royal Albert Drive, just outside the Sands on the big paved area.
