Celebrating its 90th year, the Scarborough North Bay Railway announces that it enters the season with new owners.
Scarborough North Bay Railway first opened on 23rd May 1931 and has become a landmark in the town.
For many years, the trains were run by Scarborough Borough Council until privatisation in 2006. Its then owner David Humphreys and his team made a raft of upgrades including the addition of new rolling stock, station buildings and lakeside attractions.
The railways has now announced that John Kerr & Peter Bryant have taken over the company.
John and Peter have run the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway in North East Lincolnshire since 2014, and look to bring their enthusiasm and expertise to the North Bay, including additional attractions.
Director John Kerr commented
“The railway in Scarborough is an extremely important asset to the town and wider region.
Before his retirement, David has done a fantastic job of revitalising this much loved attraction and we are looking forward to working with his dedicated team to further this. We can’t wait to take the railway to its centenary and beyond”.
Plans are afoot to re-open the railway and other attractions on the 12th April 2021 when the lockdown restrictions allow.
