Whitby Town Council has re-elected Councillor Sandra Turner as Town Mayor, while Pickering Town Council has appointed Councillor Emma Dineen as its new Mayor for the upcoming year.
Two North Yorkshire towns have confirmed their mayoral appointments for the 2026 to 2027 municipal year following their respective annual council meetings.
Whitby Town Council has re-elected Councillor Sandra Turner to the position of Town Mayor.
The decision was made during the council's Annual Meeting, which took place on Tuesday the 12th of May.
Following her re-election, Councillor Turner expressed her gratitude to her fellow councillors for their ongoing support and reflected upon the progress the council has made over the preceding twelve months.
Town Mayor Councillor Sandra Turner said:
"Thank you for putting your trust in me for another year. It has been a difficult, challenging year we have gone through. But, we have a full complement of staff and are moving in the right direction. It is very positive. I am really looking forward to a proactive year and working with everyone to achieve that."
Alongside the mayoral appointment, Whitby Town Council also confirmed that Councillor Jonathan Harston has been re-elected to serve as Deputy Mayor for the 2026 to 2027 term.
Meanwhile, in Pickering, the town council has also decided its leadership structure for the year ahead.
The appointments were finalised following the Annual Council Meeting, which was held on Monday, immediately after the Pickering Town Meeting.
Pickering Town Council announced that Councillor Emma Dineen has been appointed as the Pickering Chairman and Town Mayor for the 2026 to 2027 period.
Furthermore, Councillor Giles Edmondes-Preedy has been selected to take on the role of Deputy Town Mayor for Pickering.
A spokesperson for Pickering Town Council said:
