The high resolution screen has been donated by local developer McCarthy Stone.
The developer behind the Sycamore Court Retirement Living Plus development on Filey Road, has given the Royal National Lifeboat Institution fundraising branch in Scarborough a welcome boost with a £500 donation.
The donation has been used to purchase a new display screen which is crucial to lifeboat launches, training and safety briefings.
Lee Martin, Coxswain at the RNLI Scarborough said:
“The last 12 months have been like no other, due to Covid-19 we haven’t been able to fundraise in the traditional sense, and although the lifeboat station is not currently open to visitors, the station remains fully operational and we continue to launch to those at peril at sea.
“We’re grateful to McCarthy Stone for its generous donation which we have used to replace our temporary display screen, which was unable to display data effectively. The new screen will display the weather, AIS and RCAM data and is likely to save countless lives at sea.”
Independent of Coastguard and government, the charity depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved more than 142,700 lives.
