North Yorkshire Police say pressure on their control room staff will be reduced this month with the addition of new call handlers.
The force has been recruiting more people to help answer 999 and 101 calls.
Deputy Chief Constable Mabs Hussain says training for the first raft of recruits is nearing completion.
The deputy Chief Constable also says that having more police officers on North Yorkshire's streets has made a big difference to the force's response times.
Mabs Hussain says changing the way trainee officers are deployed last autumn has had a real impact.
